MOVING BEYOND THE STATUS QUO /
Progress is at the heart of the 21st century. Never in history have we been so efficient at spreading ideas, modernizing our economy, and sharing our values. In a globalized, digital era, change can be found at almost every layer of society. Technological advancements from smartphones to iPads, successful startups like Airbnb and Uber, and other communication tools, have all brought us closer together than ever before. Societal issues such as women’s rights and LGBT rights are being tackeled and put at the front line of the international societal agendas, and through social media, our creativity and opinions can be shared widely across the globe instantly. Progress is on the rise and it seems like nothing can stop its course. This is our status quo.
Yet, we are facing increasingly difficult and unprecedented challenges at all levels of our society, and we mustn't overlook them; instead, we need to embrace them and move beyond them. Whether that means focusing more on the environment and sustainability, pressing the need to reform our education system, or creatively expressing ourselves, we need to come together to be inspired and enact real change in our communities.
TEDxEdUHK is here to bring life back into daily operations, discuss values, alternative approaches, hidden curriculum, and roads to discovery.
